Ratings and Reviews
Critics Consensus:The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature may be a slight improvement over its predecessor, but its frantic animated antics still offer minimal entertainment to all but the least discriminating viewers.
Animated comedy is forgettable but promotes teamwork.

See AllThe Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature Full Movie Download – The newest entry into the franchise picks up soon after the events of the first, though a curious number of details and characters have been swept away in service to this new story: While “The Nut Job” ended with its furry creatures making their way back to a (newly socialism-free!) park, squirrel leader Surly (voiced by Will Arnett) learning the importance of selflessness, and a human character taking over the local Nut Shop, “The Nut Job 2” opens with said shop falling into disarray (and its human owner nowhere to be found), leaving the creatures with their very own private cache of seemingly unlimited nuts to savor (including plenty of animated product placement). As such, the animals have become fat, lazy, and totally without sense. Surly, it seems, is very happy and hasn’t retained much in the way of big, movie-made lessons.
“The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature,” directed and co-written by Cal Brunker, is a searing indictment of capitalistic government corruption, embodied by the cravenly criminal Mayor of Oakton City (Bobby Moynihan). In seeking to wring every drop of profit from his province, he destroys and develops the city park where these rodents enjoy a collective lifestyle, in order to build an amusement park, Liberty Land, a monument to crass consumerism and cutting corners. When the rodents resist this development, the Mayor unleashes exterminators to violently suppress the uprising.
Nut Job 3 Full Movie
Apart from Mr. Arnett’s Surly, no other animal gets more than a few scraps of screen time, including Jackie Chan as the leader of a Chinatown mice gang and Bobby Cannavale as a dimwitted pup. Surly’s relationship with his love interest, Andie (Katherine Heigl), plays out like a Goofus and Gallant comic strip in which he does things the easy way while she moralizes about the importance of hard work and coddles Surly through his tantrums.
The artistry is there, on the surface. (Literally — the rough edges of metal cages, the dried-out acorn caps, all look fantastic.) But the character design is ugly, and the story is tired, with corny song cues and easy stereotypes. (The tough characters all have New York accents; the corrupt politician has a molasses-thick Southern drawl.)
Surly and the others join forces as they try to sabotage the crews destroying the property. But the mayor hires an animal control company to keep them at bay and his evil plot to make money while endangering lives by installing faulty rides continues apace. Will our heroes, such as they are, fight back? And will one of them accidentally fall into a coma and inspire a supposedly touching flashback about the value of friendship? And will that moldy oldie “Born to be Wild” become the go-to tune for each round of loud and violent mayhem? Yes, yes and yes.
‘There is no substitute for hard work’ is the point that the makers strive to drive home. They harp on it endlessly, making it all too preachy eventually. The animals are adorable but the portrayal of humans is juvenile and one-sided. If the mayor wasn’t evil enough, you have his destructive, control freak daughter, who sneers at everything that moves. Their collective hatred and attack on the animals seem uncalled for beyond a point.
The Nut Job (2014) was a tough nut to crack. It was pummelled by critics, but grossed more than US$120 million (S$162.7 million) worldwide, making almost three times its US$42.8 million budget.
While the first movie was a decent heist caper, this sequel does the “animals outwitting dumb/evil humans” trope that has been done before in other animated flicks such as Open Season (2006) and Over The Hedge (2006).
In contrast, The Nut Job actually tries to be something that ended up being a critical failure in the first place. That’s how it deserves that score it earns today. The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, on the other hand, is begging itself to be better than its predecessor and also begging you to love it so that it can earn more money at the box office. If you get fooled by these things, it seems as if you’re not ready to become the biggest moviegoer yet.
