So my guess is that the A4 chip is not the problem. Getting the update to start over might be tricky, but maybe it will restart after a fresh reboot from a fuse pull? A first for Ford, the SYNC3 update includes important security updates and enhanced Apple/Android integration.
True to its namesake, the newest Ford SYNC3 update adds software support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support for 2016 and newer vehicles. SYNC 3 users can download version 2.2 of the software to allow SYNC to, well, sync with their existing devices better.
The update is compatible with Android 5.0 and higher devices. Apple users will be supported as well, assuming they are using an iPhone 5 or higher, and running iOS 7.1 or newer.

The update can be completed in one of three ways:
- Via Wi-Fi
- USB flash drive
- At a Ford dealership
According to Don Butler, “Our SYNC3 software platform was designed to be easy to update so we can get our customers the latest and greatest features, functionally and security enhancements.” Butler is the executive director of Ford Connected Vehicle and Services.

The easiest way to complete the update will be to turn on “Automated System Updates,” found within SYNC3 settings. When the vehicle is connected to the user’s selected Wi-Fi network, the system will automatically scan for and install the updates.
